I have a 1999 S70. The check engine came on. The fault was narrowed down to the gas cap which I changed. Can I somehow reset the check engine light myself or will I need to bring it to a shop to have it reset?

If the car goes through enough drive cycles without that fault the light should reset itself. How many drive cycles, at least two. Now that does not mean that you drive the car twice and all will be good. Drive cycles are when the car is driven and the control unit runs all of the self tests and all parametors have been met. A short drive to the store may not be enough time driving in normal traffic to reach all those paramators. So that being said you may need drive a few days. You can always get to the dealer and or a shop that has the proper test and scanning tools so that they can reset the light.
