Car Stereos: 2004 Cavalier, replacement interface, stock radio

Question
Wondering if i can replace my stock radio with a aftermarket one without buying the 150 part Called (GM warning Chime and Radio replacement interface) Future shop instaled my car deck and billed me 150 dollars for this part, they never even told me about it they just went ahead and instaled it.  My question to you is do you even need this Chime and Radio replacement Interface thing for my NEW car Deck to work??  Can you just by pass it?  I hate to have to spend 150 dollars if i don't have to.  Thanks alot for looking at my question.

Answer
Hi Peter,

In short, no, you don't NEED this item, but it's almost definitely worth having in the car.

Without it, your car loses its door chimes, the ability to let you know when the doors are open, the low fuel notification warning, as well as other things I may have forgotten about.

Without it, it would have added to the labour of installing your deck  because they'd have to tap into other wires to get accessory power, etc.

So in all, no it's not necessary, but it's probably for the better that you have it.
