Volvo: **alternator belt replacement**, crank pulley, 1995 volvo 940

Question
how do I replace an alternator belt on a 1995 volvo 940 4cyl A/C no turbo.the belt broke off on the freeway and I don't know how to put it back on.I need a picture view of the area and need to know what to loosen up so I can put the belt back on.   THANK YOU    **ED DARIN**

Answer
Ed,
The alt belt rides on the center groove of the crank pulley. The forward bracket of the alt has a locking nut, so loosen that and then the small one to the side of the locking nut is the adjuster bolt. Loosen the locking nut (13mm) and then screw out the (10mm) adjusting bolt, that will loosen up the alt allowing the new belt to slip on. Tighten the adjusting bolt so you get about 10mm deflection in the middle of the belt and then tighten the locking bolt.
I do not through this web page have the option to copy and paste any pictures, sorry.
