Volvo: traction control mulfunction?, traction control system, automatic traction control

Question
Dear Vedat,
we recently got Volvo 2001 V70T5 which has automatic traction control system. When we drove in West Virginia, it started to snow and I noted that that wheel slipping sign started to show up. We were going uphill, and car started to loose speed. Finally, we were almost stalled and when we came to curved part of the road with a some angle to a side, we slipped to a snow on the side. It did not occured to me for a while that if I turned off traction control, we might be able to go on. I end up pushing the car for a while until I realized that I had to turn off traction control.
I tested it since than and ideed with the system on I can not drive to even a slightest slope on a snowy road. (All other cars - in West Virginia - drove OK, except us!)

Q: Is it normal or is it a mulfunction of the traction system?

Thanks,

Sergei

Answer
Hello,
Yes, I can say that drop in engine performance while the STC lamps is on. I think your car has STC, not DSTT. Stc Stability Traction Control, DSTC is more than STC, Dynamic Stability Traction Control. In DSTC, there is Steeringear angle sensor, and SAS module and gyroskopes also. Howeveri I recommend to you that if the car was almost stall at a turn, please go to an authorised dealer, and get it checked its Engine System. There is Engine Control Module Upgrade Software, get it downloaded to your car. It will be very beneficial for your car.
