Volvo: Volvo 960 Parts, volvo 960 parts, rear shocks

Question
Hi,

I have a Volvo 960, 1994, non-turbo. I bought it cheap and it needs a few fixes.

1) Shock on rear passenger is leaking. Dealer part is like $273/shock and then installation on top of that. Any reason not to replace both rear shocks with $50/pc shocks from autoparts store?

Thanks.
Bryan

Answer
Hello Bryan! Do not put any old shocks in. That car comes equipped with a Nivomat (load leveling) shock. You need to replace them with the original shock or you will have major suspension problems. However, There is a kit available to replace both shocks and springs. It is much cheaper than buying nivomat shocks. Go to www.ipdusa.com to buy the kit.
