Volvo: Installation, reverse light switch, volvo family

Question
Hi!  Does the installation of the reverse light switch on an '82 GL Wagon, obviously standard shift, require spacers so that the lockout does not bind?  Appreciate your assistance.  All Volvo family!

Thanks,
Dusty

Answer
I'm not sure I understand your question.  The reverse light is driven by a small screw-in sensor directly into the side of transmission which triggers the light relay when you put the car in reverse gear.  Are you talking about a spacer at the sensor point?  As far as I know, there aren't any wires for that circuit coming up through the shifter shaft.  Where are you worried about the binding taking place?  Let me know if you have a different setup than this.
