Volvo: 1993 Volvo 960 stereo problems, 1993 volvo 960, volvo 960

Question
"I have a 1993 Volvo 960, problem with stereo.
The first thing I noticed was the On/Off, volume knob made the speakers crackle when moved. Then I noticed the speakers on the right side sometimes cut out and if I play with the volume knob would come back on. The stereo always works in the AM mode and in the tape mode. The FM seems to be hit and miss, mostly miss, antenna issue? Which jumble of wires would be the antenna? The other issue was the 6 disc CD changer. It was working but 2 of the CD were being skipped. I guess I should have felt lucky to have some working. Anyway, I removed the CD changer and cleaned it out and reconnected the edge coushions that were loose. Then I reconnected the CD changer to the stereo wires in the car and now there is no power to it and the stereo doesn't recognize it. What's the trick?
I have the code to the stereo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Eve

Answer
My guess is that your stero is bad.  Fuzz when dials are turned and speakers cutting out are usually signs that it is dying.  The fact you were having problems with your CD changer might have also been symtoms of the same problem, you probably don't have anything wrong with the changer itself.  Finding a Volvo stereo at the junkyard or buying a new one to test in the place of the original is probably in order here to help narrow down the problem.  Good luck!
