Volvo: windscreen wipers not working, wiper motor, water spray

Question
Hi Jason

The front windscreen wipers on my 1985 240gl wagon stopped working out of the blue, i used the water spray and the wipers worked a few times, then completely stopped. i have not been able to get them to move at all in any of the speeds.
The rear wiper is working fine, and the fuses are all ok.
Any ideas on what might have caused this to happen and how i can get them going again?
cheers
Dannielle

Answer
First I would check to see that voltage is getting to the wiper motor terminals when you press the switch.  The motor is located on the upper left firewall of the engine compartment.  If there is voltage, then the motor is bad, and you'll have to replace it.  If there isn't, you probably have a faulty switch on the steering column, so I would test and replace that if neccesary.  Good luck!
