Volvo: check engine light, volvo specialist, s60 volvo

Question
Hello Jimmy, I recently bought a 2002 S60 Volvo. It has 46,600. miles on it. I love this car.  I am still under warrenty, the dealer I purchased it from also gave a 30day/1,000m guarentee.  Yesterday, the check engine light came on.  I restarted the car and it remained on.  My husband and I checkd all the fluids, reopened the gas cap and screwed it back tight, restarted it and the light remained on.  I took it for a short drive, turned it off, restarted it and the light didn't come back on and hasn't again yet. I read my owners manual and it states that you should take it to a dealer. When the check engine light comes on should there not be a message in the message window on the left side of the dash?  Thank-you for your time and any advice you may be able to give. Tobi

Answer
Hello Tobi! If the check engine light is on, it is best to get the car to a dealer or a Volvo specialist to have it checked. It could be as asimple as a loose gas cap or there could be more problems in the emmisions system. Usally a message in the window would mean that it is a more seriuos fault. The car has a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty from Volvo. You may want to take it to a dealer the repair should be covered.
