Volvo: used volvos, volvo wagon, high mileage

Question
Jimmy,

I am interested in purchasing a used volvo wagon for my family.  I found a nice '94 940 with 126k $3k and 850 with 160k $3500, both automatics.  The 940 needs a new hood.  I checked service records on both and appears that the 850 may experience more problems because of the more advanced features. I liked the power of the inline 5 as opposed to the 4 cylinder.  However, the 940's seem more durable-almost bullet proof!

1.) What are the pros/cons of each?
2.)If you were going to buy a used volvo for yourself or family member, what would you buy and why?
3.)Should I stay away from high mileage volvos in excess of 200k?

Answer
Hello Mark! I am a big fan of the 940 series. As long as it has been well kept, the car will last you a very long time. The 850 is also a good car but can be more troublesome than the 940. I would stay away from anything in in the 200k area unless you know that it is well kept.
