Volvo: WHy my car wont start, jumper cables, car wont start

Question
I have a Volve 240 gl sedan, and i am having some trouble. It will start fine in the morning, but it seems when i go to start it after school it has a problem. This just recently started and has a couple times in the past, but not as much as it is not. i turn the key and it just grinds the engine like it wants to start and sometimes if i pump the gas it helps. It usually takes me hooking it up to another car with jumper cables adn then grinding it for like 5 minutes befor it finally starts. I have taken it to a mechenic a few times and they have not been able to fix it. Please help...

thanks Carson

Answer
I had this same problem with my Volvo a few years ago.  What you need to check is whether or not you are getting a spark at your plugs.  If you are not, try cleaning all the electrical contacts on the coil itself, they are exposed to air and tend to get corroded after a few years.  If you do have a spark, crank the engine and pull one of the injectors to see if you have fuel squirting out.  If you don't trace the fuel lines back until you have pressure.  Sometimes it can be an intermittent clog in the fuel filter.  Good luck!
