Volvo: Remote Entry System, safe bet, t5

Question
Howdy!
I was just curious about the remote entry system for my 1996 855 T5, or well if it actually has one or not! I have read about the trick of reprogramming the remote control unit by turning the ignition 5 times and then pressing the button etc. Will this same trick work if I have a V70 remote control instead of an 850? (The reason I ask is that my wifes father has a V70 and I thought that I could pinch the remote and give it a wee try!!)
Thanks alot
Andy

Answer
I would first think that if your 855 never had a romote itself, then it's probably a safe bet you don't have a remote system installed.  If you want to try your wife's fathers remote, there are ways to program them for a new system, but  the way to do that will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and also from year to year.  If your father-in-law has a factory installed Volvo remote system, I would probably call Volvo and ask the question about how to reprogram, and if they think it would work on a remote system from your older car.  I say this, because you want to make sure you can reprogram his remote back to his car after you're done with it!
