Volvo: Electrical drain, volvo 850 glt, remote keyless entry

Question
Hi Jason,

I own a 96 Volvo 850 GLT. After a day or two of sitting the battery goes dead. I used an amp meter and determined that if I removed the door lock fuse it was better. I also had to shut off the dome lights. This also killed the remote keyless entry.

Do you know is the remote module is incorporated into the door lock relay and what else may be causing the drain?

Is there a dome light module also?

Thank You

Answer
I'm not familiar with the 850 series, but I'll try to offer some more generic advice.  My guess would be that something within one of the doors is causing a short.  A lot of times, if the rubber sealers on the windows are cracked or gone, you can have moisture buildup in a door, causing the various electronics present to short.  To narrow down the location of the short, I would put back in the fuse for the doorlocks, and then manually disconnecting the power lock mechanisms from each door, one at a time.  Unfortunetly that requres removing the door panels.  For more techical information, I would suggest posting your question on www.brickboard.com.  There is an 850 section, where fellow owners can give you more specific information.
