Volvo: Volvo 1999 V70XC, volvo models, alarm button

Hi I have only one remote part number 9166202 for 99 V70XC supplied to Australia. The remote locks/unlocks/opens tailgate (ie three buttons). Ebay has lots of remotes available mostly ex USA inc Volvo part numbers 9166200 and 9166199 one of which is an almost identical remote and the other is similar remote but with four buttons the extra being a red circle and assumed to be a panic alarm button. These are supposed to be suitable for Volvo models 98-02 but there is some suggestion that you have to get a remote with the same part number and that possibly there are different frequencies used down under by comparison to your local market. Would be interested in any comments or thoughts you might have given that you appear to be a bit of a legend.

Hello Stephen! You will need to get a remote with the same part number in order to make it work. The remotes for 01-04 models are very different than the older models. You will also have to make a trip to a dealer or a Volvo shop to have it programmed. I hope this info helps.
