Volvo: Headlights stop turning on, volvo 240 dl, shock tower

Question
I have a 1987 Volvo 240 DL. Over the last year, my
headlights would VERY occasionally not come on when I
started my car (I always leave them on, and I drive with
them on during the day).

In the past, switching the headlights off and then on would
cause them to come on, if not the first time, then the third
or fourth time. Last night they stopped working completely.
For some reason I thought it might have to do with the rain.
Today was humid, but not raining. The lights still didn't
work.

I checked the fuse box, but no fuses were out.

The parking lights work when I set the switch to parking
lights only, and the brights will flash on when I pull their
lever, but they won't stay on.

Can you help?

Answer
Hello Ezra! There are 2 relays that control headlamp operation. One is under the hood near the shock tower. Part #1307991. The other is under the dash on the drivers side. Part#1324749. The problem may be with one of those relays. I would check the one under the dash first. I hope this info helps.
