4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 4 wheel drive, auto parts stores, chiltons

Question
Hi, When i engage the 4wd. in my 91 blazer 4.3l automatic the light shows that it is engaged but it doesn't engage. I read some about a switch tht engages it. Could you tell me if there is more than one switch and where they are located. Thanks, David

Answer
David,

The easiest way to trouble shoot this is to purchase a repair manual from your local auto parts stores.  The most common ones are, Chiltons, or Haynes, and they coast around $20.  Either one has sections on the transfer case and the differentials and give step by step instructions on locating these type of problems.
It is possible that the front differential is not engaging.  Many of the newer vehicles have a vacuum, or electric disconnect on the differentials along with switches and relays on the transfer case.
