4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Ford Clutch, ford explorer sport, clutch work

Question
The clutch in my 2002 ford explorer sport has gone out and i was told that the you can not bleed the clutch. Is this true?

Answer
Jason,

Most hydraulic clutch systems have a bleeder valve on, or near the slave cylinder.

Any of the following manuals will give you step by step instructions on any clutch work that you may need to do, including how to bleed the system if it is possible.

I don't have any specifications for the Explorer, but you can purchase a manufacturer's shop manual for it from a dealer.  They are quite expensive, normally costing, around $100.

A Chilton's or a Hayne's manual would be a better buy, as they can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20.  They have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs, or maintenance yourself.
