Jeep: Transmission noise in 1st, 2nd 3rd. in 98 Wrangler, rear differential, transmission noise

Question
QUESTION: After a trip at high speed on the highway, I started hearing a wine in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  It goes away in 4th and 5th.

I thought I "cook" my trans fluid, so I had it replaced. No change.  The wine goes from low to a higher pitch as the rpm increases in each gear.  THen it drops off in the last gears.

ANSWER: I assume this is a manual transmission?  Get back with me!

QUESTION: Yes, a 5 speed.

Answer
I would guess its bearings inside the transmission making your wine, however I would not over look a more popular problem, like the pinion bearing going bad in the rear differential.  Have someone drive you around and you crawl from the front to the back and listen for the sound to get louder, if its more in the back look for the pinion bearing being bad.  I hope you find your problem.
