Suzuki: Island sj410, minor cracks, suzuki sj410

Question
Hi Scotty,

I'm pleased to say that i have fixed the Geo Tracker so at least i now have wheels on the Island. I am still having a big problem with the Suzuki sj410.

Since my last email I have checked vacuum at the fuel pump and have had my carburator rebuilt. I'm thinking of taking the fuel tank off this weekend.

Is there an fuel filter i can take out of or off the tank.? (I've already replaced the regular fuel filter).
Any advice other than the obvious for a first timer removing a gas tank on a jeep.?

The jeep still runs for 2 minutes the dies and will not restart. Could it be the oxygen sensor?

Best,

Stig

Answer
I'm going to have to use the location of parts on a US Samurai to describe where they are.  It's possible they could be located differently on vehicles for other markets, or different years of manufacture.
There's a fuel filter usually located near the right rear tire, and just inside the frame rail.  Something to be aware of is that since the fuel pump has to lift the fuel somewhat (about .5 meter) from the level of the tank to the pump on the top of the engine, any minor cracks in hoses, and old porous hoses could keep fuel from getting to the pump.   To the best of my knowledge, there's no filter except a generic "sock", and then only on some models.
As for the Oxy sensor, if it's unplugged, the system will go to a "neutral" state, and except for the fact that the exhaust will not be quite the stuff the converter can easily work with, it should run just fine.
