Suzuki: suzi sj70 1995, piston slap, ring piston

Question
Hey, I have sj70 sierra and it has started to make ticking sound and blow a little smoke. The ticking sound has gotten louder over time. I checked the spark plugs and there is oil in the third cylinder. Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated. cheers.

Answer
Do a compression and then a leak-down test.  It will tell you if there are any ring/piston combinations with considerable wear, and leaking rings.

Lots of times, changing the oil a couple of times in a thousand miles, after using a seriously strong engine flush product will free up sticking rings, and reduce oil consumption.

As for the ticking, if it's louder cold, it's probably "piston slap" from wear on the piston skirts.  Nothing short of an overhaul can fix that, but it doesn't mean the engine doesn't have more years of use...
