Suzuki: Samurai Engine Overhaul, oversize pistons, suzuki samurai

Question
I have a 1995 Suzuki Samurai that needs an engine overhaul. One of the mechanics I have approached suggests reboring the block and fixing oversize pistons. The second mechanic suggests that we fix piston sleeves because the engine blck is aluminium and w cannot find Chrome. Who of these guys should I use? I am at cross roads.

Answer
The engine in your Samurai, unless different from my 87 ahd 88 motors has a VERY hard steel liner that probably will not require boring unless extreme damage or wear has occurred.
In the case of mine, it has gone over 300k miles and has not worn sufficiently to require boring, all that is necessary is to fit new pistons and rings, and set a new crosshatch pattern to break in the rings and pistons.  Due to the fact that the original pistons are cast type, they have an average life of about 80k miles in my carbureted engine.  Forged pistons should last longer, especially since yours is probably fuel injected.
