Tips on Buying Cars: 1999 Chevy S10 Xtreme, chevy s10, control sport

Question
QUESTION: Hi I'm looking to buy a 1999 chevy S10 Xtreme from someone i know.. they asked me 10, 000$ for it but I'm just wondering how much do you think i should offer?

ANSWER: I need more info on the truck.  Is it a regular or extended-cab?  How many miles?  What's the condition (Xtremes tend to have been driven pretty hard)?  Do you have the maintenance records?  What's been replaced or repaired?  Has it been in an accident?  What equipment does it have?  Power windows, door locks, cruse control, sport suspension, automatic or stick-shift, sound system?  Let me know on all this and I can give you a better idea as to what it's worth.

Answer
Based on the info you provided, Edmunds.com shows that the truck should sell for around $4500-$5000 if it's being offered by a private seller, and $5500-$6000 if it's at a dealer.  Unless I'm missing something, I think they're being a little unrealistic @ $10,000.
