Tips on Buying Cars: The owner lied to me, collision repair facility, carfax report

Question
I purchased a car in October 2006 from a private seller who seemed to be very genuine as he works for a great company.

I asked him twice if he was the first owner and he confirmed he was the first owner and owned it since brand new. He also said there were no accidents.

Trusting him, I did not run the carfax report.

I liked the car very much and purchased it right away, paying cash.

I ran the carfax report just for fun today( in July 2007).

The carfax report says that

1. I am the third owner.

2. The person I purchased it from, owned it for only 3 months!

3. The first owner took the car to a collision repair facility. The report does not mention the details though.

My friend was there with me when I went to see the car. I asked him this morning without telling him all this, and he confirmed what the owner had said being the first owner and no accidents.

I feel terribly cheated as the seller lied to me.

Do I have any recourse? Legal or otherwise? What are my options?

Thanks,

Answer
Terribly cheated yes, but lucky as you dont seem to complain about the car.

As for you having any recourse please read this web page on my website    http://www.usedcartips.org/privatevsdealer.html

I understand your concern had you had nothing but problems with this car, consider yourself lucky and having learned a lesson about trust...
