Tips on Buying Cars: Toyota Mazda or Volkswagen, toyota tercel, golf jetta

Hi,
 I want to buy a car but I'm not sure which one. I'm interested in the Mazda Protege, Toyota Tercel, Volkswagen Golf/Jetta or Toyota Corrola. They all are fuel efficient and that's what I'm looking for. If you know an another car that's fuel efficient, please let me know. The problem is that I can't decide which one is the best. I'm also looking for reliability and dependability. I don't want it to break so that I have to spend a lot of money for it. Could you please suggest me which one of those is the best one?

I like your picks the only other one I regard very high in this category is a Suzuki.

Your question really becomes steps of elimination as to which one suits you best, nobody can tell you that you will like the way a car handles, you have to find out on your own.
