QuestionI am very interested in purchasing a used Pontiac Montana mini
van. It's a 2002 with 65,000 miles and in very good condition.
They are asking $6,900 for it. We've test driven it and liked it a lot
but the concerns we have include a broken air conditioner and
broken radio. I realize the vehicle is "as is", but is it fair to ask for
a lower price? Or is this a buy that is a once in a lifetime deal?
Also, what is fair to ask of them if they won't go down in price e.g.
extra keys...buffing out scratches, etc. The dealer also said he'd
like $2000 down but is that really necessary?

AnswerHi April
I found over 30 Montana's for sale within a range of 100 miles from your zip code with an average price of $ 10.000
A/C and radio does not justify $ 3000. less than average price...there is more than meets the eye as to why such a low price
Here are some steps to take
you must take vehicle for an independent mechanical and body shop inspection if dealer wont allow you must walk away $ 6900. is not a deal if you end up with a lemon
Go to my website http://www.usedcartips.org/
and follow these steps
# 1... click on THE TEST DRIVE
# 2.............TAKE TO MECHANIC
# 3.............ACCIDENT
# 4.............SERVICE RECORDS
As for $ 2000. down... click on HOW MUCH DOWN PAYMENT IS REQUIRED you will find the answer
As for buffing and scratches click on SCRATCHES AND DENTS
April...if your not clear on some answers i will be here for you...i will be very interested in your findings or what seller has to say...let me know
Regards
