Tips on Buying Cars: How to get out of upside down car, 2004 nissan maxima, nissan maxima

Question
We can not afford our $685/monthly payment anymore and would like to trade in our 2004 Nissan Maxima (26,500 miles) for something cheaper. What is the best way to do this with out losing to much money?  Also, will we be able to trade in something so expensive on something much cheaper?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi crystal
When you buy a brand new vehicle the depreciation factor the first year is somewhere around 27 to 30% and that is not including taxes or any after market products you may have purchased...from there the depreciation will only be 2500. to $ 3000. a year with normal miles...yes its bad to trade after one year...
Yes you will be able to trade down...there is a few Q's i like answered to find out which direction is best for you...

What model Maxima...any up-grades...
Your monthly payments...finance or lease...
If lease i will need more details...
how many payments remain...
What would be ideal in your mind to trade down to ?...
