Tips on Buying Cars: Does a survey after purchase have an impact on the dealer?, customer service ratings, car manufacturer

Question
The car manufacturer will call the customer for the survey and rating after the customer bought a new car. It seems the dealer cares the survey because the dealer told the customer to rate them well. Is it because the car manufacturer will pay the dealer additionally based on the rating from the customer? Do you know how the survey and rating has an impact on the dealer? Thank you for your answer.

Answer
Luo,

Thanks for your question, and sorry about the delay in answering.  All customer service ratings from the manufacturer's have an impact on the dealers.  That is why the dealers want good surveys.  As for the money the dealer may or may not get.  Well, it isn't on a per survey basis.  It is based on the average that the dealership obtains when all the surveys for that month are averaged out.  If they are at or above the national average for that manufacturer then yes the manufacturer MAY give a monetary benefit to the dealership, but it also depends on MANY other things as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
