Tips on Buying Cars: buying a Saturn, 2008 saturn vue, gm cars

We need to get rid of our 2002 Explorer because of fears of great expenses coming.
  We have looked at dealers and private owners and prices are so high.
  I have found a private owner with a 2008 Saturn Vue 4wd for $12,500 that looks good.  But I hear all kinds of bad things about used GM cars.  With Saturn out of business can I get parts and service?  The main thing is it a good buy or going to devour a lot of money from bad design?
   Can you name other Suvs that price range that I can look at?  We do tow a 1500lb trailer in the summer for vacation.

Hi Don,

I have always liked the Explorer, safe ride and tough but never did consider one because of high maintenance cost and it's a bit of a pig on gas.

As for the Vue, parts will never be a problem, as for choice of vehicle with towing capacity 1500lb the Ford Escape LTD V6 would be my choice, but then again the way I like a vehicle to perform may not be your way, it really is an area you have to find out on your own through test drives.
