Tires: 245s on a 265 rim, chrome rims, rim width

Question
I am looking at buying some used chrome rims - currently they have 265/75 r16's on them but I would only be buying the rim and then putting 245/75 r16 tires on these rims.  Would there be any issues having the 245's on a 265 rim?  Thanks

Answer
Patrick,

Rims are sized by width - and the width is expressed in inches and is usually stamped somewhere on the rim.

Once you have that info, then you should know that 245/75R16's require a rim width range of 6.5" to 7.5".

And lastly, you didn't say if you are putting on LT245/75R16's or P245/75R16's.  LT's carry a lot more weight so you need to be sure the rim can carry the load.  It might be stamped on the rims, but you may have to contact the rim manufacturer.
