Tires: mixing tires, dodge durango, potential liability

Question
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango 4wd. I have Delta 31x10.50R15LT tires. I was told not to mix tire makes, for example,Delta and Cooper, although the size is the same. Any problem using different makes?

Answer
Dante,

The rule for 4X4's and AWD is that all 4 tires must be the same size, make, model, and state of wear.  Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the drivetrain.

Some systems are more sensitive than others and it's impossible to keep track of which are which.  If you contact the vehicle manufacturer you may (or may not) get the correct answer.  In either case, if the drivetrain fails while 2 different tires are on the vehicle, there is no recourse for you except to pay for the repair - and it's expensive!

Plus, it is quite possible that you will not find anyone who will mount only 2 tires on your vehicle, because they know there is this risk and they are unwilling to accept the potential liability.
