Tires: P-metric and LT tires, chevy c, tire placard

Question
I currently own a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 Z71 and the time has come for a new set of wheels. The door panel calls for LT265/75R/16 tires; I'm not sure though, as the label is very faded and hard to make out. I've been told that P-Matric is OK for my truck and LT's were too much, and vice versa. I primarily use this truck traveling to and from college, with trips to the deer lease and other off road environments at times. I also haul ATV's and trailers around from time to time with sizable loads. I do not know what type of tire Chevrolet originally put on the truck, but I was told if I had LT tires i should put the same on to replace them. Is this the best option?

Thank you for your help.

Answer
Joe,

According to Tire Guides, 1994 Chevy C/K1500's came with a variety of tire sizes - and one of the tire sizes was LT245/75R16 inflated to 50 psi front and rear - and that was only on the 4X4 (the K) versions.  Does that line up with what you can read on the vehicle tire placard?  I do not see any mention of a 265/75R16 in either a "P" or an "LT".

If so, then that is what GM said is supposed to be on the truck - and I think we can take that as the best option.

If any of that doesn't line up with what you can read on the vehicle tire placard, then please post back with what you can read.
