Tires: Honda odesey tires, 2003 honda odessy, honda odesey

My son in law has 2003 honda odessy, had tire blowout, dealer said it takes special tool to get tire off rim they can change tires from 900.00 to 1300.00 What gives can they go any where and get tires or are they stuck.. Also told they could by all new rims and not have this problem again.. Any truth and what other rims will work.. Thanks

From the sounds of it, Your SIL has the Michelin PAX tires and wheels - and, indeed, they require special tools to mount tires on and off the wheels.  As you have found out, they are expensive and there aren't a lot of places that can deal with the PAX system.

You can replace the entire wheel and tire system with something different, but that involves some expense as well as you lose the runflat capability.

To find out what is available, there are many many on-line tire and wheel web sites that will help you through the process:  Tire Rack, Discount Tire, etc all have references to Honda Odyssey's without the PAX option.  You will sometimes see that as a "Touring" version.
