Tires: hot climate trailer tires, Trailer Tires

Question
Hi Barry, I have a single axle trailer for a 2800 pound ski boat. I will be trailering it cross country to Arizona, where we will live. The 14" tires are due for replacement and I would like to make the best possible selection of replacement tire. I have read what I could find on the net, opinions are varied, hot pavement seems to be an issue, some recommend car tires for a trailer, others claim insurance problems (denial of coverage) if that is done. My head is spinning, can you help? Thanks, Stan

Answer
Stan,

What should be on there now are ST tires.  They will have the letters ST in front of the size.  That means they are designed for trailer usage.  But they do have limitations.

They are designed for a maximum speed of 65 mph.  If you plan to go between 65 and 75 mph, then you have to add 10 psi, and if you wish to go between 75 and 85 mph, you have to reduce the load 10%.

Select the largest load range for the tire size and use all the pressure listed on the sidewall.
