Tires: gasoline on tires, rubber door seals, rubber components

Question
My car was recently involved in an incident where a gas pipe line ruptured and thousands of gallons of gasoline rained down upon my car for about an hour and a half.  Now the insurance company that represents Sunoco (who owned the gas line) says there is nothing wrong with my car but the smell which can be cleaned.  I was wondering if you knew if there was any long term effects of the gasoline on my tires?  I was told by people that it probably weakened my tires and rubber door seals and wires and anything else made of rubber.

Answer
Patrick,

If the tires touched the gasoline for more than a few momemts, then they should be replaced.  The rubber used in tires will absorb oil and oil derived products and that will weaken the rubber.  The other rubber components are likely to be similarly affected, but that is dependent on what kind of rubber they were made of, but I can't imagine that they would not be affected.
