Tires: Tire Size / Load Index / Speed Rating, uniroyal tiger paw, uniroyal tiger paw awp

Question
Where to begin! Yesterday evening I had 4 brand new Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II put on my 2003 Toyota Corolla S car.  As soon as I left and got onto the interstate, the tires were kind of loud and it was a really bumpy and uncomfortable ride.  It also felt like the car was almost "wondering" in the lane.  They said they did an alignment as well, but this seemed worse than before.  I took it today to two other tire dealers.  The second one looked at the tire and said that my problem was that they put the wrong kind of tire on my car.  He said the minimum requirement for my car is 195-65-15 89H.  The Uniroyal tire is a T rated tire instead of an H.  He said this was my problem, but I called the dealership and they said my car originally comes with an 86S.  My question is, in your opinion, what should be on my car? Would the T rated tire have to do with what I am experiencing or do I really need an H tire?  The ride is awful and they are saying its because of the T rated tire.  I just want another opinion on what I should have.  Thanks!

Answer
My references indicate that your car with 89S as OE.  The tire the dealer installed meets the OE load index(89) and exceeds the OE speed rating(S).

If your car has had the "H" rated tires installed since you have had the vehicle then you accustomed to this ride and handling.  Either "T" or "H" are suitable for your car.

A lot of times when new tires are installed driver's do experience the "wondering" sensation until the new tires go through a break in period. This break in period varies among manufacturers especially when going to a lesser speed rating.  A bump however is not a normal condition.  Your dealer needs recheck the balance of your tires.

Again, Kristin, if the "H" speed is what you are accustomed to you may have to adjust to the ride of the "T" or have "H" installed.  A note here, "T" will give you more mileage.
