Tires: Tire Pressure Confusion, proper tire pressure, car manual

Question
I'm confused.  My car manual tells me that Toyota recommends 60 psi for the tires in my Corrola, but my tires are only rated to 44 psi maximum.  I keep hearing that I should follow the car manual for the proper tire pressure, but I obviously can't do that since it would blow my tires.  So how much pressure should I keep in my tires?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Alex,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker - commonly called the placard - that will list the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box, but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

I think you will find that you were reading the portion of the owners manual dealing with the spare - which is a minispare and uses much higher pressures than the tires on the ground.
