Tires: Tire placard and payload of a 1 ton, tire placard, gross vehicle weight

Question
My F350 1 ton GVWR = 11400/Curb Weight 7300. Dealers tell me gross payload =11400-7300=4100 lb.
Tire placard says:
COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCUPANTS AND CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED 3240lb. Allowing 200 lb for fuel, that's 3440 gross payload
, a long way from 4100. Does this tire placard override the GVWR? is the true payload of the truck 3240 lb?

Answer
Brian,

GVWR is Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.  That's the absolute max the vehicle is allowed to weigh.

Curb Weight is the weight of the vehicle empty.  I am unclear on a couple of points concerning what is included in curb weight, but I am under the impression that a everyday normal empty truck would weigh just a bit more n- that there are a few things that are a normal truck has, that are not included in curb weight.

Also, I think you've underestimated the weight of fuel.  40 gallons of gasoline weighs 260 # and for diesel it's about 290 #.  But those values don't fill in the gap.

So while I can't fill in this gap, I tend to think that if Ford went to the trouble of putting something on the placard, I would believe it over a calculation that might be based on some false assumptions.
