Tires: Tires, Tire Size, Dodge Caravan

Question
I have a 2002 Grand Caravan ES that needs tires.  It states I need 215/65/R16 tire size.  I have recently bought p215/55/R16.  Can I use these on my Caravan?

Answer
Karen,

No.

That would be going down 2 sizes in load carrying capacity and that increases the risk of a load related tire failure - which sometimes has tragic results.

Use a tire that has at least the same load carrying capacity of the tire size listed on the vehicle placard.

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker commonly - called the vehicle placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.
