Tires: TIRE LOAD RANGE, dodge ram 2500, truck camper

Question
I have LT265/70/75 121/118R Load Range E tires on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4.  The max weight is 3195lbs at 80PSI cold.  I am wanting to by a truck camper that weighs approximately 3800 lbs (full of water and options).  Will these tires carry the load?  I'm assuming since the weight will be carried by all the tires (primarily the rear though) that it will be ok.

Does the 3195 mean that one tire all by itself could carry 3195 lbs?

Thanks.

Answer
David,

Just so we get this right:  Your truck probably has LT265/70R17 Load Range E's on it.

If you don't exceed the capacity of the truck, then the original tire size and load range (which is what these are) will be fine.  So you need to contact Dodge and ask them what the payload limit is.

3195 # means that this is what one tire can carrying under ideal conditions - and since no one operates under "ideal" conditions, vehicle manufacturers apply a whole series of "factors" to their tire size calculations to come up with what they apply to the vehicle.  As a general rule, larger is safer, and each vehicle manufacturer has its own idea as to how "safe" is "safe".
