Tires: Tire size, bridgestone duelers, stock rims

Question
I have a 2003 Z71. My 265/75/16's need to be replaced. I would like to go taller, but don't need to do so. I don't travel "off road", so ride, noise, and traction on pavement are important. I like the tires that don't bow out as much on the side as the Bridgestone Duelers I have now. Mycurrent tires also hydro plane allot and squall loudley even at low speeds. I am thinking about a Yokohoma geolander. I have thought about a 285/75/16, but am unsure what this will do to my gas milage. Any advice?

Answer
David,

If you go with wider tires, the effect of the "bowing out" is going to be worse, as the rim is going to squeeze the beads closer tpogether than is nominal.

But the real problem is that the stock rims are too narrow for a P285/75R16, so I can't recommend you go there.

And the hydroplaning and noise issues are probably related to the fact that the tires are old and they may have some irregular wear.  New tires will eliminate these problems, but you ought to get an alignment to prevent the noise from irregular wear returning too early.
