Tires: tire diameter, goodyear tires, chevy cavalier

Question
Hi Barry:

I totalled my 1994 Saturn and replaced it with a 1994 Chevy Cavalier.  According to GM, an option for the Cavalier is the following tire size: P195/70R14.

The Saturn has top-of-the-line P195/60R15 Goodyear tires that were guaranteed for 100,000 miles but have only 2,000 miles of wear.

Can I safely use the P195/60R15 tires on the Cavalier?

Answer
Tom,

I'm going to assume you know nothing about tires, so if some of this is trivial....well....so be it.

First, the tires have different rim diameters, which means you'll need to buy rims to make this work.

No, the rims are not interchangeable.  The Cavalier is a 5 X 100mm where the Saturn is a 5 X 110mm bolt pattern.

Further the Cavalier requires a higher load rating than the Saturn and the tire sizes reflect this.

So overall, you just shouldn't bother with this swap.
