Tires: 1966 Chevelle SS, wheel backspacing, 1966 chevelle ss

Question
I have currently restored my 66' Chevelle and would like to possibly upgrade the tire size. This car originaly came with a 7.75x14 tire mounted on I believe a 6" rim. My question is, if I switch to a 15" wheel what tire and wheel sizes would be available and how do I determing wheel backspacing ETC. I am looking for a very clean look.
Thanks, Frank

Answer
Frank,

Buying rims for this old of a vehicle is a bit problematic and it would be best to get the assistance of someone who knows what they are doing - which I can't.

But I can help you with the tires.  I'm not sure what a "clean look" means, but do you want to stay as authentic as possible?  In that case you'll want to use P205/75R15's, which ought to be fairly easy to locate.

But if you want something more modern, 15" rims are not the way to go!  16 or 17" are more like it.

Hope this helps,
