Tires: Tire Problem, tire problem, steering wheel

Question
Barry,

I'd appreciate your advice on a tire problem that I am experiencing. I believe the problem may have been caused by a bottle of Puncutre Seal Tire Repair that I used improperly.

Earlier today I noticed that I had a flat tire, so I filled the tire with two cans of Puncture Seal. A few mintues later I drove the car to a mechanic who repaired the tire for me (there was a nail in the tire).

Shortly after the repair I noticed that whenever I go above 40 mph my steering wheel vibrates. Once I go above 60 mph the steering wheel vibrates very very strongly.

I think that the two containers of puncture seal may have balled together inside of the tire. The main reason this happend is likely to be because I did not drive the car for 3 to 4 miles immediatiely after filling the tire with the Puncture Seal...which is what the directions indicated. However I did drive the car about 10 minutes after filling the tire with the Puncture Seal.

What do you think? Is there anything I can do to fix the problem other than buying a new tire?

Thank you in advance,
Steven

Answer
You're probably right.

But the fix is to rebalance the tire.

If that doesn't work, I'm afraid that replacing the tire is your only option.

BTW, it is possible that what you are feeling is a separation.  So the tire should be checked for any bulges in the tread area - any unusual wear in the shoulders, too!  And if the vibration gets gradually worse - sure sign of a separation.

So you just might want to replace the tire anyway - just to be safe.

Hope this helps.
