I bought a new 03 Carrera 2 wheel drive. It has Continetal Contisport2 tires. 17" The car shakes in the chairs and wheel and the dealer says that Porsche won't warranty the tires because the car is considered as lot damage.

My question is can radial tires get flat spots? Can the spots be driven out? Can deflation to 15 pounds and driving some correct this?
The dealer wants to deflate and try to drive out the vibration, I of course am insisting on new tires, and prefer potenza so2-a's with the proper N compound rating. Both tires are Porsche approved.

Can the tires be remedially handled or not? I dont think i want to drive on z rated tires that had run out issues and then were attempted to be corrected by the deflation method.....
What is your opinion?

Hello, diana

I have never heard of running tires under pressure like that. If the tires have flat spots due to setting for a long time they should settle out after riding on them a short while. Sounds to me like there are other uniformity problems with the tires and I to would reccomend replacing them. I would go with the Michelin Pilot Sprot A/S if I were you.

Answer
I find it highly unlikly that the rims are warpped. Aluminum rims are machined and they much more uniform than steel which are welded. Most of the time an aluminum rim will crack before it warps and will cause other problems such as air loss. If this car was setting in the same spot for a long time it is very possible the tires did develope flat spots. The rubber in tires are in a constant state of curing throughout the tires life.
