Tires: snow tires and cars, bf goodrich, nokian tires

Question
You mentioned several tires for snow, ice and slippery conditions. What do you think about Nokian tires and how would you rate them against the one's you mentioned?

I need a car for my 16 year old son. He has been in one accident slipping on fresh slippery snow. I would like to buy a car from the mid 1990's. Which one's would you reccommend for handling and  stopping especially in wet, snowy, icy conditions? I'm looking to pay from $2,000 to $5,000 for something with around 110,000 miles?

Thanks,

Doug

Answer
doug you could put 1000 a piece michelins on the car, but we've both been 16 before and know how we used to drive.  So really it comes down what's a good tire at a good price.  Nokian tires are independent tire brand.  They're ok compared to others of relative quality.  I'd stick with BF Goodrich Traction T/A's and call it a day.  2-5000 for a car for a 16 year old can get alot of car for the $$ if he takes care of it.
