Tires: Tire Size, honda civic lx, 2001 honda civic lx

Question
Hi Barry! I'll start you off with the kind of car I have. I have a 2001 Honda Civic Lx sedan and the manufactor's tire size I believe is P185/70R14.  About a year ago i switched it with a 17 inch tire and rims. Two weeks ago my  transmission broke when my mileage was 70,000. I took my car to the auto shop, and they didnt really knew the reason why my transmission happened that way, but they pointed out my tires, that it might be too big for my car and it might have been the reason why it ruined my transmission. My car for the last couple months been making loud noises, that sounded like it was due to the tires. After installing a new transmisison, the noise was still there.
my question is...could it be that the tires were too big so it ruined my transmission?

Answer
No your tires did not have anything to do with the tranny failure.

Your mistake was asking the repair folks what causes something to fail.  They know what parts to replace - what's worn or broken or what's in the kit.  Sort like asking the grocery store why fruit goes bad.

The noise might be tires, but it might not.  Swap the tires around and see what affect that has.

Hope this helps.
