Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: CBT, provisional license, photocard

Question
If i was to apply for a CBT would I need to bring any other licenses etc, because I went on a website and it said this:

'Licence.
You must have a current UK license to be allowed to commence training, this is in two parts the photo card and the paper counterpart. You must bring both parts with you when undertaking training. You can apply for you licence up to 3 months before you 16th birthday.'

I wasn't quite clear on this and hoped you may be able to explain it for me.

Many thanks
Charlie

Answer
First of all Charlie, well done ! CBT is one of the most sensible things you could have done.
As for licenses, it makes no odds if you hold a full car license or a provisional nowadays, they come in two parts, the photocard and the paper counterpart. You must take both parts with you to your training as the instructor will need to verify a few things. As for the age thing, yes you can apply for your first provisional license up to but no sooner than three months before your 16th birthday even though you cannot drive until after your 16th birthday. I guess that this is your situation, your first provisional? (I hope you remembered not to smile for the camera!)
I suppose it cold be taken that they are two separate licenses but they are two parts of the same thing.
Good luck with the training and keep us posted on your progress!
