Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: New bike - Try a HARLEY, harley davidson 883, honda 250

Question
Nigel:
I'm talking to everybody I can aboout which bike to buy. I haven't ridden for maybe 15 to 20 years. First I am going to take a safety course, I realize alot has changed. I want ot purchase a Harley but I'm not sure which one. I was leaning toward the softail custom. I weight about 220 and about 5'11" and 55 years old. I want this to be the bike I'll have for a while, to use around town but mostly just weekends rides. I want the most comfortable soft ride possible. I already did the wild thing when I was younger.
Thank You

Answer
Hello David

I am doing a course at present with a lady who is new to motorcycling who thought by having a small capacity motorcycle, it would help her riding.  In England there are some restrictions and she couldn't ride anything more then 33bhp, so she had a Honda 250 Night Hawk.  It was too light and didn't have enough power.  However she had a Harley Davidson 883 Sportster, which she thought she couldn't handle.  I suggested that she used the Harley and guess what the Honda is for sale.  She found it easier to ride, more usable power and comfortable.  So based on my experience and having seen how the bike performs, try a test ride on one of those.  Hope this has helped,

Regards

Nigel
