Answer
For routine maintenance replacing the pads and bleeding out any air should be sufficient.

However, if the brake had been binding, i.e. the pads dragging on the disc (rotor), you should check the operation of the pistons and the condition of the seals.

Where bikes are not kept clean or are unused for a long time, a ring of crud/corrosion can build up where the piston is exposed over the edge of the caliper. This can wear down the seal or cause uneven operation of the pad against the disc.

Also, check the disc for any signs of wear; run your thumb nail across it. Is it still even and flat or has it got any ridge lines or is it like a dinner plate - thick at the edge and thin in the middle.
