1986 bmw 733i
i made the mistake of taking my car to a regular oil change place and after they flushed out my engine etc. it wouldnt start. after them not being of any help, i towed it home, and after thinking things, i disconnected the battery, let it sit for a few minutes, and hooked it back up again, and it started.  well alls good, til gas prices went up last summer, i let the car sit for a month or so, when i went to start it....NOTHING
was cranking, but wouldnt catch so i've tried the previous solution, didnt work, replaced the battery, nothing, and some "helpful" neighbour said sounded like might be some water in the gas line, and to put 1/3 gas line antifreeze in and try it.  I did, stupidly and now it doesnt even want to catch, whereas before it seemed like it was trying.  ANY ideas....they'd be greatly appreciated. I'm not really mechanically inclined, and cannot afford a mechanical evaluation.  Please help !!

I often run into this problem myself.Having older BMW's does tend to cause strange things to happen.I believe you should check your fuse box and make sure the fuse for the fuel pump is clean and tight. The ceramic fuses have a big tendecy to corrode and not make a good connection.Clean them all and replace any questionable fuses. Then from time to time give them a turn in their locations to keep the corrosion down and the connection clean.

Answer
Well at least the fuses are good, was there power there? When you turn the engine over is there spark?Do you have fuel pressure? With the vehicle being as old as it is has regular maintance been done?(cap, rotor, plugs, etc).I know these are and seem alot of questions but with some answers I can help you figure it out.Looking at the spark plugs will tell you how it was running and checking the cap and rotor(a little tight to get to but need to check)also  will help.Make sure the battery has its body ground strap, as this is how the fuel pump gets its ground.Check some things out and let me know..good luck
